Apprentice Conductor

Michelle Merrill recently stepped down as the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic’s Assistant Conductor to accept a position as Assistant Conductor with the Detroit Symphony under the baton of Maestro Leonard Slatkin. We wish Michelle the very best as her career moves forward!

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and Music Director Lawrence Loh are pleased to announce that Mélisse Brunet has been named Apprentice Conductor for the 2015-16 season. A native of France, Brunet is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan’s prestigious orchestral program. A recipient of a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Paris Conservatoire, Brunet has studied under the tutelage of Carl Topilow, Kenneth Kiesler, Pierre Boulez, David Zinman, James Ross, Gustav Meier and Marin Alsop.
Last season Brunet made her debuts with the Orchestra of the Opera of Rouen Haute Normandie (France), the Lyric Orchestra of Avignon Provence (France) and the Orchestra of Montpellier (France). In 2011, she was invited by Lionel Bringuier of the Orchestra of Castilla y Leon (Spain) to assist with their production of “Carmen.” Here in America, she is the Music Director of the University of Michigan’s Campus Symphony Orchestra and serves as the coach of French lyric diction of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus.
