We continue our musical exploration with bursts of colorful sounds by an eclectic combinations of instruments with violinist Ruotao Mao and pianist Rick Hoffenberg. This program will take you on a journey through contrasting and unique soundscapes.
This concert features our Philharmonic strings performing some of the most well-known and loved music written for string orchestra, including Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Debussy’s Danses Sacrées et Profanes, and Grieg’s Holberg Suite. Also on this program is Bruce Reiprich’s beautiful When Quiet Comes, which he composed in 2021. We are pleased to announce that Bruce will be joining us; don’t miss your opportunity to meet and greet with the composer after the concert!

Discover how Joseph Haydn’s very last string quartet continues to inspire composers more than two centuries later! Enjoy Haydn’s elegance, paired with the intensity of Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte, and the flamboyance of Spanish composer Joaquin Turina. Performed by violinist Robyn Quinnett, violinist Gabriel Schaff, violist Orlando Wells, and cellist Peter Brubaker.
Celebrate the iconic film scores that inspire the imaginations of children and adults alike through the music of legendary composer, John Williams. From Indiana Jones to Harry Potter to Star Wars, these instantly-recognizable Hollywood soundtracks are brought to life onstage with your Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic!
We end our Season of Discovery with a program of works exploring contrasting musical textures including the exuberant clarinet trio by Zemlinsky and the groovy Disco Toccata by Connesson, with clarinetist Pascal Archer, cellist Alberto Parrini and pianist Spencer Myer.
This program opens with Leonard Bernstein’s witty and playful Candide Overture. Bernstein passionately believed that music makes a powerful impact on the human spirit—and we’re sure you’ll agree with him after listening to this wonderful piece of music! Next on the program is the Flute Concerto by recent Pulitzer Prize Winner, Kevin Puts, featuring our own Principal Flutist, Laura Gilbert. The concerto’s rhythmic vitality and memorable melodies culminate in a highly energetic dialogue between the soloist and musicians. Closing the performance is Rimsky-Korsakov’s stirring Scheherazade, which showcases the power of the orchestra, and weaves Middle Eastern musical influences with gorgeous and colorful melodies.
