Since she began freelancing in the mid-80’s, Principal Second Violinist Katherine Hannauer has performed everything from Ballet to Broadway. Ms. Hannauer has been a member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic for over 20 years, and since 2000, she has played Principal Second Violin for the Glimmerglass Opera in Upstate New York.
In New York City, she works with such groups as the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the American Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, Opera Orchestra of New York, and in many Broadway pits. She can be heard on recordings with the Philharmonia Virtuosi, American Symphony, and various Broadway composers/conductors, and has toured with Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli, Skitch Henderson and the NY Pops, and Mikhail Baryshnikov/White Oak Dance Project.
In addition to music, she enjoys yoga, cooking, knitting, and almost anything food-related. She lives in New York City with her husband, cellist Roger Shell, and a Border Collie mix named Blue.
